For my 31.5 Birthday

Yesterday, to celebrate turning 31.5 (not really), I had a throwback to 1983.

I dressed up as Alice again in order to promote the upcoming Halloween Dance at my kid’s school!  I already had the blue dress from my 30th birthday party, so I made an apron out of an old white pillowcase and some trim bought at M & J Trimming (my new favorite place), and some skype instruction from Carrie.

I never would have known how to cut or gather the apron, and I wouldn’t have done the waistband in thirds, rather seconds…so thank you Carrie!

I sew!

I bought a cheap blond wig and some tights to go with the outfit and put my rejected wedding shoes to good use (the entire outfit I gathered for the wedding, minus shoes, that was rejected by my besties, seen in action here).

I was glad I spent a week in London because I think my accent was pretty good.  Lolly wanted everyone to know she belonged to me, and I think Phoebe did too because she chose a rather costumey headband for the day.  It was way fun to be Alice for a few hours….one costume down….a few more to go!

Why IS a Raven like a Writing Desk?

I was hoping to finally get the answer with this (can we call it a) sequel to Alice in Wonderland.

We were anticipating this film so much, and were not disappointed.  It was visually stunning and had some unforgettable scenes.

SPOILER ALERT:

My personal favorite was the White Queen making shrinking potion for Alice and they way she pronounced Urine.  Lolly loved when Alice returned the eyeball to the cheetah/hyena/monster/dog/thingy. I think Coco my sister loved the Mad Hatter’s dance, which also had a name that I think starts with an F. Phoebe thought the Queen of Hearts calling Alice, Um, was the cats pajamas. She also loved explaining that scene to me, in case the White Rabbit’s use of an unvocalized pause and the Queen interpreting that as Alice’s name, escaped me. ; )

I was surprised by the plot. I was not expecting Alice to find herself the way she did and become the heroine for all of wonderland. I wish I could tackle some of those costumes for Halloween, but I fear it’s too big a job.  At least I had fun wearing the Queen of Hearts lips for a day.

Anticipation…

To say we are excited would be a gross understatement.
