Vacay

Our kids are in the pool, so naturally, we are not.

Listen, it’s going to be the last time in a while when we don’t have to be attending to a child, so we are enjoying it by talking about all the Dads who are ripped and all the Dads who are fat.

Jason thinks the ripped ones must be genetically predisposed to being ripped, and they workout of course.

We are allowed to talk about the fat Dads because Jason used to be one.  We talk about how he changed his life and his eating and exercise habits and we are all the better for it, and hope that lifestyle never ends.

I just have to turn off all the switches in my brain about pee in the pool and the fact that ducks were swimming on it early this morning, and swim diapers.  I try to avoid swimming whenever possible.

I have held up well on vacay so far, but there have been a few moments when I definitely feel 6 months pregnant.  My feet are enjoying a break on this little chaise lounge right now, while the children swim.

We are staying at a Disney resort and we have realized we are not resort people.  It’s kind of like being on a cruise in that your options are so limited.  We are not cruise people either.

Our most favorite vacations are new-to-us cities…well, except for Memphis.  That was a rough one.

The best thing about a theme park vacation with New York City Kids: they can Hold It (when necessary), they are fabulous walkers, waiters and good at secret codes when we spy people of interest. Phoebe: “Mom! MFA!” Matching Family Alert. We have seen some doozies.  I suggested we do that for our next Christmas card photo—she forbade me saying last year’s was already “been there done that” in the category of family awkwardness.

Tonight: a viewing of African Cats by the fire. Sounds fun.

  1. A good time is being had by all.

  2. Sounds like you’ve had a great get away. I’m glad you got to lounge poolside!
